When Mistakes Lead to Magic
In this time of my life, I was trying to be out-going, meet people and make friends (IYKYK)
I saw this workshop for charcoal sketching in my weekly newsletter from AllEvents and I thought why not, let’s see how it will be and what can I learn. If I am good at it then it will be amazing and maybe I can keep creating charcoal art.
Context:
I used to draw a lot in my school time, basically I got into it during my 10th standard, around the same time when I started watching anime. I mostly used to draw anime characters or a a set of characters together. Later on, as I went to college, work started and life moved on, I started to drift away from the hobby since I couldn’t take out enough time for art.
So, when I saw the event all the feelings came rushing back and I decided to sign up and go.
When I reached Raah Cultural Centre in Pune, where the event was held, as I was waiting for the organizer – Sneha – to arrive, some woman managing the venue came and said that we did not get enough entries for charcoal sketching, the organizer is opting to do a workshop for knife painting, with acrylic colours.
I was puzzled for a moment, although I thought, “It’s okay, I am already here and anything is fine.”.
The organizer came, we were 5 people doing the workshop and following her instructions to complete the knife painting. I didn’t know what I was creating, I just put my trust in the organizer and followed her lead. She has been doing acrylic and oil paintings, working with clients for more than 7 years. She also used to conduct classes and teaches painting in Pune.
By the end, I realized how life mirrors art — sometimes the best creations come from unplanned turns. That day, knife painting taught me that art doesn’t always follow lines; sometimes, it follows courage.
